Ok, I went to enquire about an oil cooler, I got told I needed certain things, I found all of them no problems, but a bloody sandwich plate, no one sells them, does anyone know ehre I could get a sandwich plate or get one fabricated?
Whats cheaper, trd sandwich plate which I hope they have or get one custom made?

Feedback and advise would be great

greenlane speed shop sells them (not TRD tho). Think theyre under GSS in the phone book

what engine do you have? if youv got a 4age you could use a aw11 one.

He has the 3S-GTE, but they share the same oil filter as the 4A-GZE so the plate should fit.

The only question I would have is does it have a thermostat, or is TRDMod fitting an external one. IMHO Thermostats are a requirement in NZ, especially in winter, even in summer the oil takes 10-15kms to warm up on a stock engine. At best without a thermostat the engine will not perform up to it's potential, at worst it will damage the engine.

why is that
because the oil would be too thick and cold??

i run 5w-50 100% synthetic oil on it, also, what if I cover the oil cooler when im not using it for circuit, that would have the same effect as having a thermostat wouldn’t it, I mean if you cover your cooler, then obviously it wont hav its cooling capability anymore

I have spoken to people with cars not for circuit just street and use aftermarket oil coolers to keep the oil temp down, and no adverse effects has been done to the car at all

(im not trying to trash what your saying, im tryignt o figure out the best ways about this, so don’t get me wrong)

yeah it could fit... but im gunna sit on the fence on that one... not had much to do with 3sgte (other than wiping the oil off their bums!)

on the aw11 they circulate the oil through a water pipe.
doesnt have a thermostat but i think running it through the water pipe would aid warmup then help cool it.

running an oil cooler of the radiator type would increase the warm up time of the engine, IF it warmed up at all.

The gt4 205 engine has a water cooled oil cooler, but when circuit application and higher boost is applied, im afraid that isn’t sufficient, hence the cooler, if I cover it that’s fine, it wont have the extreme cooling capability that it would have, even covering it half, if you ever had a gt4 205, the engine bay gets to hot after a drive, especially on the track my god, I went on the track and I could probably have cooked some roast in the engine bay

Yes it is because the oil is too thick and cold, and even worse may not warm up at all, especially at high speed if the cooler gets good flow.

Don't believe me if you want but I'd suggest you go to tech books and buy the ...to win series by Carroll Smith, he goes into details about why it's stupid to run without a thermostat, can't remember if it's in "Prepare to Win" or "Engineer to Win".

But, like I said, if I covered the cooler, it’s a small object and easily covered.
If I covered, it would not cool the oil … like an intercooler would not work if you covered it, same as radiator…..

Does that make sence?

why waste time covering it, the amount of covering depends on the temperature. Much easier to fit a thermostat and forget it. One less thing to worry about, and it's a bit hard to get out in the middle of a race to uncover/cover up your oil cooler.

true true, but im talking about a budget way of doing it:)

i havent enquired how mucha thermostat costs, which i will tomorow because this was bought up
but like iw as saying though, in theory it works perfectly fine if your ok with covering and uncovering it

Earls make a sandwich plate with built in thermostat, about $30-50 more than one without IIRC

I run a remote oil filter kit for my AE86 with FC3S RX7 oilcooler. Brought the remote filter kit at Pioneor (spelling) Auto Part or something. It cost around $150 I think... was a while ago. I asked for a Ford unit as they have the same srew tread... I found the info on the net and it works. If you want, I'll look around for the resit and get the parts number for you...

Hi there, yeh, sorry for getting back to you so late... I finnaly found the resit for mine. But I haven't got it with me as i'm at Uni now... Will PM you again once i got home and on the net.

I guess the part number is...
CP 15715. Remote Filter Relocation Kit 3/4-16.

$ 133.81 included gst.
