Making a gasket?

Postby Silent Knight » Tue Jul 13, 2004 12:40 pm

How easy is it to make a gud gasket? What do I need etc etc?

I've blown one of my gaskets on my turbo manifold and it's leaking oil like a dirty little whore and needs replacing.

Any help would be much appreciated.

depends what gasket, it is so much easier just to buy one, if its manifold to turbo, get a stainless one, if its head to manifold get a factory one, or get a gasket place to make a stainless one for a factory one...

chelles is about to go through that process... putting the 3S bach 2ge4.

if you can get one made rather waiting 3 weeks and $100 later for one gasket, it might be the way to go.

I'm not sure what kind of longevity you would get from it, but you can use gasket paper, just attach it one of the flanges and cut around and inside it with a razor blade, then poke/drill some holes for bolts. Alternatively you could trace the old gasket. If you decide that paper isn't going to suit your application then you could get one cut from a very thin piece of stainless steel, using the old one as a pattern, by most places that do steel CNC machining/plasma cutting/water jet cutting.
