MR2 3SGE Engine overhaul *HELP*

Postby Rasker » Tue Jul 13, 2004 2:38 pm

Hi folks,
Recently during my lastest WOF the Mechanic and I discovered my 1990 MR2 has a major oil leak coming from the underside Head Gasket, on top of that problem the alternator needs new brushes, the oil pump is playing up, the Aircon condensor needs reconditioning, and finally the Starter engine isn't very strong.

Sooo the question is.... does anyone know somewhere that has knowledge of a MR2 engine that would be cheap and reliable option in regards to reconditioning the whole engine?

My mechanic has quoted me a grand for the head gasket work and that is minus the other work, to top it off there are no guarentees that they won't find anything else wrong while working on it.

The other option is replacing the engine with a used 3SGE but I'm a little dubious about this, does anyone know of or have had experience with a used 3SGE engine?
It does come with a 6 month warranty and is the same price as the Gasket work.

My absolute limit for the engine work needed is $2,000, so I want to find the most economical and reliable option available.

Thanks Guys

Yes I'm sure I could, unfornuately I've got to stick with the non-turbo'd version for now. That and have to find a place that has reliable and low KM used Engines :(
