Mmm, Boost wrote:For sure, and if I was going to keep my MR2 and aim for high 400hp, I'd definately bin the Link, and move on to something far better, but seeing as how I was only ever aiming for 300ish hp, and didn't really have long term plans there was no point forking out $6k (some of us poor unfortunates can't get trade :P) for the ECU, then install.

$6K WTF was that for, Motec's have never been more than $4200 for the Base ECU, and that was the M800 when the exchange rate was crap. I bought my M8 for $3200 and sold it (unused) for $3400 4 years later when I bought the M800. I also have to pay retail, everybody does on the Motec's as there not much margin in them, or so the distributers thell me. The only way I can get them cheaper is by buying them in Aus. and getting the GST refunded when I leave.
You're exactly right there, and I'm willing to bet alot of us will still ignore your advice and learn by our mistakes...bet you didn't listen to your (treading carefully here )elders either :D

Perhaps if the internet had been around then I would have, but that and the fact I was playing with what was then bleeding edge technology meant I didn't have much of a chance to ignore my elders, you, and fellow Toyspeeders, of course have no such excuse :P

Funny thing is I did once listen to my elders, and they said I didn't need to replace a $2.00 circlip which I was intending to do, well I shouldn't have listened that time as the circlip did indeed fail, causing the motor to sieze and spit me off my bike, which then proceeded to travel end over end down the road destroying itself as it went. Saved $2, lost $5000, not a bargin and one I've never let said elder forget either

Dont you have a 308 anyway? 8O albeit it reshaped?

Indeed I do, but why should I stop at just one Ferrari, and the thought of a 288 GTO is the only thing that keeps me going back to work in Aus.

Besides which the 308 is nice, but it's just your average Ferrari, rough, uncomfortable, and in reality not very fast. OTOH the 288 GTO, while still rough and uncomfortable, is at least fast (209mph), is classed quite rightly as a supercar, and as were only 272 of them built it's a bit special even for a Ferrari 8) If the LTSA's rules weren't such an arse I'd look at an F40, but the way things are at the moment I think it's be too much hassle getting one road legal over here

Of course it goes without saying that I'd fit a Motec to any of these beasts (who in their right mind would fit a Link to a Ferrari), in fact the 308 is getting the M800 installed as soon as I get a chance, and the MR2 will have to live with a lowly M400 8O
