stock 4age flywheel weight ???
anyone know what lightened weights are good wouldnt mind a little lighter for quicker accelleration but dont wanna go soo light as too loose spinning momentum,
cheers

Lightest factory 4age flywheel I've come across was my '86 AW11 (bluetop 3rib) factory one, so far all the fwd ones I've picked up have been a fair bit heavier in comparison.

ah i see, well this would be for RWD anyways, but i mean i dont have any first hand knowlege of lightening them myself so wasnt sure how much lighter is suited to what ? cause i know if you go to light it has affects eg might not rev as easy going up a steep hill etc or is this only if its ridiculassly light ?

Only cars lacking in torque suffer from up hill stints, if your car can't hold it's speed uphill without opening the throttle considerably or dropping a gear, then lightening the flywheel is a bad idea...
What I meant about the FWD thing, is that of the various flywheels I've come across, the ones out of FWD engines were heavier than the ones out of RWD setup motors.

wow 6.7kg to 3.5kg wow thats a huge difference, that would prob suit a more tuned engine thou as mine is not ill prob not go that light must make it rev up bloody quick thou
just not sure how much weight = how much difference thats all
for example if i took off 1 kg, would that be very noticeable or only a slight improvement,

It would be hugely noticeable, the thing about flywheels is that they are part of what's called rotational/driven mass, which means when they are stationary, they weigh xx, but the faster they turn, centrifugal laws come into play.
It's the same reason why we were able to drop a mates time on the strip down from 12.9 to 12.7 just by changing his wheels/tyres from 17's to 15's

i lightened and balenced mine, FWD.. took about 2kg off it
unfortunatly it made it more temperate at low revs ($$% stock ECU's)
fortunatly it helped me rev from 1000 --> 4000 a lot quicker.. which for 4AGE is critical.. because there's no power untill after 4 anyway
note: didnt do it to my new car, only old 4AGE

It'd depend where on the flywheel you take the weight off too... If you take all the weight off the outer area of the flywheel it should spin up faster than if you took the same amount of weight off of the inside area of the flywheel...
And if I remember my physics right... taking off the inside will have less noticibly effect on spin up/spin down than off the outside... All in all you're still removing weight so will make differences all around...
Just a thought to chew on...

true, they go on no hassle ay, might be worth looking into then, but isnt a real urgent one at this stage, suspension first, get back on the road then few other bits and pieces then drive line freshup so will prob do then unless gearbox or clutch goes first then i will look at doing at the same time,
