Postby TRDmod » Thu Jul 15, 2004 4:06 pm

Hi, hopefullysomeone will know
C1 has bolt on sway bars front and back for gt4 st205
Does anyone know would this be a uprated one from what is standard in the vehicle right now? It comes iwht solid bushes too for the sway bars

I wanna get it but if my ones are the same just in different colour, I don’t want to9 bother

What are you trying to do to your handling? Have you changed shock/springs. Don't forget it is the whole package you need to think about.

Do you know what diameters the bars are?

The front bar is 18mm up from 15mm) and the rear is 19mm (17mm).
There is no mention of the increase in stiffness this creates.

but obviosuly if its thicker it will have more strength
hence stiffer generally

I think that with those upsizes it's around 50% stiffer than factory...

Not necessarily if it's hollow as opposed to solid.

I doubt that c1 motorsport will sell hollow sway bars, I mean they sell performance parts for everything, I doubt they will sell that type of material, and if they ever do, which they wont, ppl will find out about it extremely quick and before you know it, the Japanese government is on their tushy and getting pushy

When it comes to cars, Japanese have strict rules and regs, and sonds cheesy but honour, like that mitsi excecutive that hid defects, he pretty much commited sepaku after he got caught

some people will replace perfect parts for named parts like it sounds like you're doing. in some cases it might actually be a downgrade..

i know what you mean

Postby TRDmod » Fri Jul 16, 2004 1:48 pm

i understand, hence the question, i will get the details of it, but, its not like trd will sell sway bars that are less BETTER as the ones standard,

i understand that some ppl will replace just for brand, but this doesnt look like the case , u know what i mean, c1 motorsport is a huge company in japan, specialising in toyotas as well, they have braided brake lines, slotted rotors that are specifically for gt4 205s, even strut braces, c1 racing pads, diff cushions chassis parts, etc all that stuff, even body kits, but body kits dont neccesarily inprove performance,

so what im saying is that i highly doubt that a huge company will sell someting that worsens performance, i mean its like saying apexi will sell stuff that hinder performance, or greddy or hks etc, u knw what i mean.

but i do understand what your saying the main question was if someone has bought these before, of if anyone has bought sway bars befrore, front and rear and how they found it

There's nothing dodgy about hollow sway bars, the use of hollow tubing is quite widespread and quite legitimate. They're generally a lot lighter too.

fair enough

Postby TRDmod » Fri Jul 16, 2004 4:30 pm

but hollow would probably mean that its either really expensive due to hardcore contructions ie honeycomb or it sjust plan on expensive using something silly like titanium or someting:)

but this is supposedly a stiffer one, so if i get a stiffer one, thats ok though yeah?
as long as it states that its stiffer
and not jsut for the pretty colours

No need for fancy construction or materials, just plain hollow tube is good enough!!!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with hollow bars and not much difference in stiffness either, depending on wall thickness and material.

Bar stiffness goes up by the 4th power of the diameter i.e. twice the diameter is 16 times stiffer. Assuming same material as stock then the above dimensions would equate to an increase in stiffness of;

Front:
Solid -107%
Hollow with 5mm Wall thickness -99%
Hollow with 3mm Wall Thickness - 66%

Rear:
Solid -56%
Hollow with 5mm Wall thickness -48%
Hollow with 3mm Wall Thickness - 22%

so the question is i should look at these sway bars and see what they are like, either hollow or silid, and what ml the thickness of the walls are? is that correct, what should i be looking for, cos obviously the biger the diameter and thicker the wall the stiffer it is
