You'll find most car manufacturers have their own version of this technology (actual design and effect may vary). BMW for example do, pity I cannot remember the name :?

VTEC'S ARE FOR SISSYS

Why would any person in there right mind crave a VTEC ???
they sound like my vacume cleaner when its trying to suck up something way to big to fit in the tube

what ya really want it my ke20 corolla with its 1166ccs of power delevered through its 2 stage toyoglide gear box it would be left behind in any race (at the moment) but i dont car cuz ya know why unlike any honda my car has class so i juct cruse nice and slow so people get a good look at my car and even when i do get pulled up by the cops they still think ive done some mods one stupid $&#$% thought that the 3k wasent standard and had to call back to base to check never mind reading the plate on the firewall :)
anyways toyotas all the way

i would properly go for honda if i'm looking for FF+NA performance car.

but i have found honda cars' finishing are kinda crappy comparing to the others. my gf's family own an accord vtis, and while i was helping her cleaning the car, i noticed i can push the front bumper's side into the car quite abit. maybe it was designed to be like that so the bumper will get more damage in an accident comparing to other parts. i dont' know....

else i would properly go fo toyota, great finishing and nice interiors~

Those 2.2L Preludes certainly have some get-up-and-go...pity they aren't easy on the eye (in my opinion anyway).

But you mentioned in another post that your personal best on the 1/4 is
14.016 at 165km/h
when stripped (which don't get me wrong.. thats a nice 1/4 time :) )... but with that sort of 1/4 time, I don't think you'd be smoking off an 92 NSX, unless the driver likes to granny shift, or was having a bad day.

Not sure on the 92 NSX's, but the 96 NSX can do a mid 13 second 1/4. Was this a case of racing the NSX on the street, or at the track / dragstrip? Things may become quite different on a strip, where speeds actually exceed 100 km/h, and not just a race purely off the line.

Anyhow.. I support pxpx's choice.. go the Hyundai's :P

Even the 1990 NSX in stock form can do 0-100 in about 5.9 secs and the quarter in low 13's ;)

There pretty damn quick, temple of vtec had clips of a nsx vs a whole bunch of cars, even beats a GTR ;)

Cheers

They are also as rare as hell. I've only seen 2 or 3 on the streets of Wellington ever. Some people may see that as a bad thing, but it sure beats seeing one everyday like many other cars and it makes the times you do see one an "Ouuuhhh look..." experience. :D

Nice to see that the majority of you guys have a broad mind.

A select few however;

Oh so if you were on a 'forum for people who like to jump off a cliff and committed suicide' message board, and it was voted that to 'jump off a cliff to commit suicide' was winning easily, you would there go out jump off a cliff, and commit suicide? Not very sound logic there.

Man where to start, your saying VTEC is crap, but a VTEC in its lowest form would (you even admit it) carve on your car? You then go to say that you drive past nice and slow so people can get a look at your car? Thats not comparing apples to apples son, VTEC isn't for looks, its PURELY for performance, nothing else. Infact I think you just prooved for me that you have no idea whatsoever.

Cyclone21, you said that "VTEC isn't for looks, its PURELY for performance, nothing else". I thought that VTEC was a comprimise between fuel economy, driveability and performance for street cars. I remember reading some where that people who race honda's will often not use VTEC as there is no need for it on the track. They can just use the "hot" cam profile from the start. Therefore how can it be purely for performance.
I'm not trying to say that VTEC is crap as it is a good way to gain more power out of a small capacity N/A engine. Just not for everyone.

when your using VTEC, the "Hot Cam" is engaged :)

But yes your right with your other points, I was trying to say that VTEC isn't for 'looks' and driving slow trying to look cool with your neon lights and repco blue lights etc. Which is what TWIZTED NINJA was trying to compare it to.

I agree totally with that comment of yours, that a decently modded turbocharged motor _should_ beat a similairly modded N/A.. but for the world of N/A Honda is the best imho, and I think the fastest N/A's in New Zealand (RSLRCN (he's going back to turbocharged is he not?), ALLMTR, TIRED etc etc) proove that :)

quarter mile times arnt always the best comparison to cars, you should never compare cars and say there better than others by what time they put down over 400m, with slicks on my car i can run 13.2 estimated, with slicks on another supra the red V8KILR one his best time was 13.1 and with micky tompson street / drag tyres he got a 12.3 no other mods, i have bit of a traction issue at meremere and theres other factors involved in 1/4 mile aswell, i better grip on the streets for some reason ive noticed, when i raced the nsx it was a rolling start and we were both pretty even to start with it wasnt until i was high in 3rd gear when i started to comfortably pull away from it, my car weighs 1690kg with me in it, we raced on a up hill on a passing lane in whitford (illegal aisan drags location) so 300hp and tons of torque won that night, the other time i had a race with him was at the lights in hobson st i think (the one with the 4 lanes going onto the motorway) i saw him at the lights next to me had a quick chat and revved my car up and launched hard with a bit of sideways and some screeching and once she gripped i hit boost at the same time pretty much and left it for dead, it was a standard 92 nsx red one with nsxtc plates aisan dude called nick owns it, the car is in wellington at the moment.

I just gotta say that working at Turner's Car Auctions I drive heaps of Hondas and my parents have had a fair few(not to mention owning one previously myself). In both cases, i've found that Hondas are tinny pieces of poorly made shite. Compare build quality, reliability and rusting between Toyota and Honda and my '83 Trueno is a perfect runner with zero rust whereas my '85 Civic was written off from rust alone. On top of that the running gear and suspension was completely screwed having done half the kms of the Trueno, in the old civic and could barely make 150 bucks in parts. My dad's Turbo City was prone to blowing the turbo and clutch and he drove it like a total granny. First hand, it obvious that the Toyotas have lasted far longer than Hondas.

What I just said was probably all messed up, but it's late so leave me alone! The rest are just crap either way

Undertow: I think you're pretty lucky to have a RWD Levin/Trueno with no rust - most of the ones I see are rusted to a certian extent.
