redtop 16v RWD conversion question.....

Postby kingcorolla » Tue Jul 27, 2004 2:43 am

on my redtop 16v there is a coolant input pipe that runs along the left hand side of the block and ends up at the back of the engine to the remote thermostat (if looking north-south) Here, there also is a couple of other feeds, (ie. heater hose, water temp sender.) For my conversion I was planning on fabricating a new pipe that "u turns" instead of running down the block, and still providing housing for thermostat, heater hose etc, but wont be easy. My other plan was just running a coolant hose from the existing thermostat, along right hand side, but was worryed about coming close to exhaust manifold, or just plain loosing cooling effiecincy! This is my 1st RWD conversion and im sure theres an easy way out. Someones done this before....hook me up!!

I just cut down the two pipes that run along the block then mounted the thermostat on that side, using random tubes to join it all up, kinda hard to explain, it was bit of a mish

cheerz guys, guys its just a case of trial and error, im thinkn ov ae85 coupes idea and just cutting that pipe short and mounting thermostat as close to radiator as i can. Prob will be ruff as guts but thats the way i work. least its pretty much hidden ay! let u know how it goes.

i have the fwd water lines which have been shortened on my 4agze (origanally fwd)in ae86, and run the fwd thermostat housing mounted to the block below the inlet manifold, was crap when i bought the car, but a little bit of fiddling has got it working good

off the top of my head $150-200 including water pump, depends on what bits you need exactly.

If i was doing it i would use a rwd 3a waterpump and rear housing and get rwd 4age top radiator hose outlet to go from the head.
Then the pipe from the back of the head and the rear of the water pump go to the heater or block them off if you are not having a heater.
