Shortening shocks will give the shock more travel, however, the bumpstops will still be the same distance from touching as they were. On my ae92 I eventually had to replace the bumpstops because they wore quite badly after 2 years, I was running standard shocks. Once they had worn down quite a bit the shock would bottom out...not good.
For long term use I'd go with what the others say & save for some heavy duty shocks. Untill then just keep it bumping off the stops.
Cant believe im still a member here.

Ive had the same problem but i replaced my adjustables with standard 1s.
Wot happend to my adjustables was it started 2 bottom-out which inturn spread the inner rod which scrached the bore and fukd it.....
Might pay 2 get it done properly coz by the sounds of it ya gonna hav 2 get your new 1s shortened anyway.

I had the same problem in my ae92 levin. Mine is quite low though, lower than 90mm in the front suspension arms. After I put 50mm lowering springs in, one side always knocked really hard. The shocks were screwed. The side that knocked had lost its bump stop. 65000km for standard shocks and you probably will need to replace them, My problem is fixed now.

New shocks, and bump stops and it is fine, rides great and smooth, but have to watch those big potholes. It is the pitfall of any lowered car. In my opinion it is your shocks, lowering the car would only make the car worse. Stick your hand in your pocket and fork out for some.

Shortening the shocks will not fix the problem because you will always have the same shock travel from ride height to bump stop!

New shocks!
