Chips

Postby Dodgy Guy » Sun Aug 01, 2004 3:30 pm

Hey all, got a bit of a question.

What excatly are racing chips and how do they alter the performace of a car? I know they take the speed limiter off the car but are there any other benifits of getting one?

which cars respond better to being "chipped"?

they can also alter your fuel/air maps, ie for running higher boost/ cams/ etc, prob more use when u have changed things like boost etc, than adding to standard engine,
some factory comps carnt be chipped, some just need a chip replaced others u have to take out whole circurt board,

as for which cars respond well, i have no idea, i heard Gizzmo do a chip for S14 turbos that makes a good gain,

depending on needs, sometimes better off going to a full after market comp or plug in

the basic idea of a chip " or after market ecu or piggy back ecu " is to fine tune ur engine
i.e if you have done cams, airbox, exhaust/extractors bigger turbo and you dont have a a/market ecu you want be albe to get ur full potental out of the engine u could be running ether rice or lean on the fuel side of things or detonation or pinking witch you dont want

if you ask me this should be one of your first mods to the car if you are going to go full out

go to this link it is my uncs a/market ecu it based around toyotas & mitis etc

www.performancemotorresearch.co.nz

this sould help you out
