Silvertop Rebuild

Postby Sanxta » Sat Aug 07, 2004 2:14 pm

Hi, I need to get a rough cost replacing standard parts (rings and whatever else wears out significantly faster than the rest of the engine) and a port and polish for the 4AGE SIlvertop 20 Valve engine.

This is for a STANDARD rebuild I am not putting racing parts in just want to know from people who have done this what it cost you in terms of parts, labour, or all up, whatever, I just need a basic idea at this stage.

Chur,

Rebuild

Postby CAMB01 » Sat Aug 07, 2004 10:08 pm

Well, it really depends on where you take the motor. If you take the motor out of the car, your looking at around about $2000 - $3000 for the complete rebuild, thats stripping, measuring, machining, rebuilding, parts and labour.

Cheers, how much labour would be involved for putting in a new piston set (TRD[?]) ?

Dude, whats up with your posts? There's a quote "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS". Sounds like you've adopted this as your moto

Sanxta, if you only want a standard rebuild and aren't wanting any performance parts, a second hand engine would be the cheapest option IMO. You have no reason for putting higher spec pistons in unless you want to run higher revs or go FI.

Yeah, that's hardout what I was thinking too.

But you can never be sure of the KM's that the importer SAYS it has done, that would be my big worry.

Plus that seciong hand engine still has wear on it, whereas a rebuilld is all new parts. $1500 silvertop installed in Auckland (forget where).

Hmm . . . I dunno what I'm gonna do cheers for the help tho :P
