Postby lintc0532 » Fri Aug 13, 2004 1:08 am

Bought a 89 corolla without power steering...Always drive power steering cars before so very bad feel...
Any one know how can i upgrade to power steering? Is it possible? How much?
My car is a 89 corolla 1.3 XL NZCAR.

It'd be cheaper to buy some weights and streghten the arms :D ,
but
I'd look for one at the wreckers if I was you, there are usually pleanty of ae9#'s at pick a part etc.
You will want the p/s rack, the pump off the engine, the tank for fluid, all lines.
I can remember off hand where/if any of the vaccume lines to intake go (if it has them) so thats another thing to look at from the doner car.
All in all, depending on access, its pretty easy if you must have.
is yours a NZ new model out of interest?
Cant believe im still a member here.

Whether or not it is different to an AE82 i am not sure however i removed the PS from mine and replaced it with manual steering so i could get better feel  i had to replace the entire steering column as well as the rack as the PS column is shorter than the non PS due to differnces in steering rack design/shape. easily done but a pain in the ass to swap over all to lose very much needed HP in the big 2E
