I always thought all the 4age blocks were basicaly the same, but then I realised that there are two different trd headgaskets. one 16v h/g and a 20v h/g.

will the water/oil galleries of a bluetop head and 16v trd head gasket line up with those of a 20v block?

Don't forget valve recesses. You'll need to use the bluetop pistons... and rods.... and crank. (unless you can find someone with a redtop smallport piston set) So not much of an advantage going to the silvertop block.... other than the 7 ribs.

Cos of the lighter internals (lighter than the red/blacktop), stronger block and piston oil squirters. And cos it was the only block I could get hold of.

Ive got some highcomp 16v oversise pistons with 20mm gudgeon pins (the ones u were looking at on trademe redmist)

Why will i need different crank & rods?

You can use either crank/rod combo in that block.

You goddit Chaos. You shouldn't have a problem with silvertop rods and crank so long as you use a 20mm gudgeon.
With the Bluetop pistons you have an 18mm gudgeon forcing you to use the bluetop rods which inturn have a 40mm bigend and force you to use the bluetop crank.

Those Pistons were a steal. Just wish I had a use for them!! Still got enough 4age's and parts sitting on my garage floor to keep me busy for some years to come!

you must use the 16 valve h/gasket.

The difference is the waterjacket holes between the two heads which means if you are using a 16 valve head you must use the 16 valve h/gasket and vice versa

so just by using 16v head(redtop small port) bolt onto in silvertop block is a no no? and using 16v TRD 0.8mm head gasket...
Is this because the valve will hit the piston? or something?

I went to buy a cambelt for the motor the other day and found out that the 20v and the 16v have different part numbers for the cambelt!
will I need a custom cambelt? or can I use one of the 4age belts?

No, use the longer of the two, the 16V one. Only two teeth longer I think but it will fit as I have done it before.

You use all the parts that suit the head that you are using,
so if you are using a 16V head use all the 16V stuff,
16v Belt
16V cam wheels
16V gaskets, al of it.
