Boot Spoiler Removal Question

Postby marke » Mon Aug 23, 2004 2:10 pm

Hi
wondering how much it would approx cost to remove the spoiler off the back of my ae101 levin, unfortunalty the spoiler is also connected to the rear body panels i take it its bolted to that, so more painting & sanding etc, but is there any alternatives around this? its a black car also.. so can you put some of those rounded top (black) sort of bolts though on the bootlid and tighten them up from underneath?
Any prices from people who have done it or alternative cost effective solutions is much appriciated.
cheers
Mark

Why remove it? I'd personally leave it there as long as it's not a massive whale tail type thing and just a subtle factory option.

Not sure about the never Levins, but the AE92s are just a couple of nuts holding it on so you take them out and off comes the spoiler. Just get some rubber grommet things from Repco and poke in the holes (or black cloth tape over the holes :P)

i had mine taken off when i got it all painted up. There are like 2 bolts per little piece that are bolted to the rear guards, get them welded up and done properly. the boot will have a think 4-6 holes for the centre bit of the boot spoiler. Get it done properly, cause you dont want it to leak into your expensive sounds.
It is easy to remove it too.

some people like them with it on, some off its just a personal thing. these grommets.. are they flush with the panels or do they stick over?

well my rule to which cars to take a wing off..

The rear end of the car has to have a square-ish shape to it then it looks awesome, if the car boot lid is rounded off etc, taking the spoiler off makes it look the front of a car.

Integras, GSR's, Skylines, VR4s, look good with the wing off as their rear boot lid is square-ish.

thats just my opinion but people may think different.

ok. i will look into this grommet idea, as for the rule of cars that look better with the spoiler off, thats true squareish ones do GENERALLY look better but what about older WRX's they look badarse without. And with an aftermarket front bumper i feel the front and rear will look seperate but thanks for the advice from everyone
