Postby ricky » Tue Aug 31, 2004 2:21 pm

Hi, I want to get some quote for my mr2(sw20)
I have bought a NA MR2 and I have find it is a bit slowly than I have expect, so I want to put a Turbo in my baby
I wonder what do I need and how much it will cost
Which way will be cheaper to do
put a 3sgte engine in it or just get a tubro and intercooler
what esle do i need?
This is my project car, i want it to go faster than EVO
Cheers guys

sell it and buy a turbo one. that is the easiest and cheapest option

you can get a turbo one for as little as $5000. itll cost about $2-3000 for parts alone to do the job... i know i priced it for some one a month or so ago

For what its worth buy a turbo one to start with.

You get all the good gear to start with. It aint just the motor and turbo, its all the other parts like driveline and gearbox :)

To be chasing some evos in top end isnt too hard, but launching alongside them will require some good driving and sticky rubber/lsd :)

Also subframes are different between NA & Turbo SW20s, hence I don't think the engine bolts straight in.
BTW, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here...

Yeah they are different, as are the hubs, brakes etc etc.

Far cheaper to just get a GT model and go from there.

What has been said is correct, it's definately not cost worthy converting to a turbo.

However, just because your car is a little slow, doesnt mean turbo is the only option. Doing some basic mods will give you a good platform. So get some GOOD aftermarket headers, a free exhaust, filter etc. From here you can look at things like ECU, bigger cam, gear/diff ratios, etc.

The point is, you could have one hell of a car in its class. But in terms of value for money, getting a turbo is still the best option. Just dont underestimate what can be done on an NA motor.

dont know if you have seen my add but check my site out

engine conversion prices start @ $800 and more complicated jobs a bit more it all depends on what you want done ie running drive away or engine in ready for loom ect
