tried and tested on silvertop and bluetop 4age, 4agze will be the same... the engine check light comes on to indicate that theres a problem and the ecu controlled redline might be about 500rpm less than what it should be, but it wont go into limp mode (3500 rev limit and rich as mixture) i assume it will be the same on a 1ggte, it might not be.. might aswell try it anyway to see what happens before forking out like 200 bucks

Is that tried and tested? Because usually when CEL comes on you go into limp mode.

Yes. I have done this to a few cars and no problems.
The speed sensor is not a vital controll input and so it will bring on the light but will not cause problems other than stalling sometime when you come to a stop.

I have done this to my AE92 GTZ and parents ST165 GT 4.

hey matt, is there only one wire that is purple and white, on an ae92gtz. and how had is it to get to the ecu and the wire. is it better to do it under the dash, or can you get to it somewhere else? i have a switch wired in my car being used for nothing at the moment, could be fun.

easiest to access the wire at the ecu end you might have to un-wrap a bit of the tape to get to it

For the not so mechanically or electrically minded it may be easier to locate it at the speedo itself.

I do not know if there is more than 1 wire that colour.
