[ae101 4age] jerky slowdown on backoff

Postby agrath » Sun Sep 05, 2004 11:22 pm

hey all...

okay,
1992 Trueno GT Apex, AE101, 4age, 20v think thats it, no other mods.. though i'm told non factory extractors... not sure what brand

when I back off in 1st or 2nd (maybe also 3rd+ but not so noticable) the car doesnt slow down smoothly, it slows down in jerks.... quite hard to explain, brendon (sp) had a drive while in omaha and thought it might be an engine mount... nick checked the rhs one (looking into bonnet, under airbox), and it was fine, and checked the other ones we could see from the bay...
nothing too major i guess, but now its been pointed out to me its gonna bug me til i get it fixed

not that i have heard... its like i take my foot off the gas and instead of slowing down gradually it slows down in jerks...
(this is while engine braking by the way, which i do a fair bit cause my brakes squeak til i get them fixed)

like i'm pumping the clutch as it slows down

If you grab the carry mounts of the engine and pull it back and forth with some force does the motor shift? If it does, you've probably got at least one rooted engine mount. Otherwise, check all your basic tune items, air filter, spark plugs, leads, etc as they could possibly be causing the trouble.

Cheers,

um, i think its the same in most cars with quad throtle bodies.

if you tap the gas just a little, the amount of air entering the inlet etc, gets the approperate amount of fuel, thus... the tiny amount of throttle tap can cause a jolt.

so when you slow down, be sure to choose, throttle, or brake... not *tap throttle... wee bit off..* just hold the throttle when speeding up, release it (drop it), and hold the brakes, then use the clutch to change down gears to use engine braking.

one of the guys got me to give it some gas in 1st with the handbrake on and let the clutch off a few times and they reckoned it was a mount, waiting for some time off and some fine weather to have a decent look...
i'll grab it and give it a go tho...

hmm, okay, scenario
1st gear, take off to appropriate revs, say 5k, then just lift foot off gas, but leave it in gear... car will jerk like a mofo as it slows down, rather than slowing down smoothly as i thought it should...

brendon thought it was wrong... so kinda getting opinions...

Same problem here...
Just ease off the gas really slowly, or be lazy and just slow down with the clutch in and use the brakes
