Exhausting questions: 4AGZE

Postby LOMOFO » Mon Sep 06, 2004 7:59 pm

Hey all, im hoping to be able to get some advice (hopefully from experience) on an exhaust system to suit an ae101 4agze motor. At this stage the motor is stock exept a pod and intake pipe that will be going on, however I am hoping to be able to run an exhaust large enough to accomidate the mods I plan to do later, without comprimising the performance too bad of the standard motor. The plan is to eventually rebuild the motor, with turbo set up and head work.

So what do you think? what size exhuast? and will i be able to get away with just doing the system once over???

cheers

The magic number for most is 2.25"

Thats what i was considering but thought it may be too small for my future set up, and am considering 2.5" but wonder how the standard motor will go with it?

I had a 2.5 from cat back on mine with a single resonator and it went bloody well. Only thing was it was also rather loud (which wasn't bad really), sounded great once the SC kicked in

If your mods to come include a turbo then youll need a 2.5' system. 2.5' is ok with the standard sc setup but will most likely be loud and raspy, so youll need atleast two perforated or louvred resonators to take the edge off, especially if you take the cat and middle muffler out. As discussed in recent posts too, the 'front pipe' is apparently quite restricting, so replacing that as well will give good gains

I have a 2.5" exhust on mine and it goes really well and if you are going turbo later then 2.5 would be you best bet as turbos like big exhusts.

If you are froma round hamilton you can come and have a look if you want to.

Sweet as thanks for the help, I am going to go for a 2.5 with one resonator and a good end mufler with a down tip, and also keep to the original bends in the system (which arent too terrible), should do the trick!

Anyone else got any tips on any small cheap mods you can do to the 4agzes to get a bit more power out of them??

i ran a 2.5" system with 2x resonators about 50cm long with inbuilt expansion chambers with one of actiondans N1 style mufflers also with inbuilt expansion chamber to get the noise down.
system worked very well, was a bit to loud when the car was sc, but now is turbo it's nice n quiet.
