Is it running lean 4A-GE

Hi

had this ae92 for a while and about 2 months back I changed the Air filter to a pod, checked the spark plugs yesterday and found that they were virtually burnt white...I may be mistaken but arent they meant to burn a sort of caramelly colour?
Is this an indicator of the car running lean and if so how the hell do I get it running better?
