Cheers for all the help, I've started ringing around, and so far $140 is the cheapest I can get, from SAS.

but scotts2hot has an idea I was thinking about, if you took springs out of another car [direct replacement] that were factory lower, and managed to do a straight swap into another car, that would meet all the requirements of a Warrant of Fitness, and I'd be sweet for insurance. Only problem is finding said pair of springs. Im not giving up, there must be a way to legit'ly lower my car without shelling out $400 or whatever for kingis. I wonder If i'd get a discount on certing when my dad cert's his 351 jeep transplant..

If your really worried, don't rush out and get the cheapest options. Just save some money, hold fire a bit and then get it done all nice and leagal with some kings...

Maybe you should try reading the thread, compressed springs will cost you a lot more (due to needing cert) than just getting a set of Kings etc.

about replacing springs out of other cars...it is possiable to do but you need to find out cars that have the same diameter springs, and that the springs will sit safley in your platforms, and then also that they will actually lower your car.

my friend has a lexus is200 with honda prelude springs and it sits on the bumpstops while still being captive...however this is lower than 100mm so isnt legal, but if you can afford to have a 70000 dollar car on the bumpstops on 20's then you obviously dont care about fines.

if you compress your springs you need to get shorter shocks to get a cert as they analyse your car and ensure it has adequate suspension travel. standard shocks are sometimes pushing their limits on king springs

Mate. He has provided a link from the LTSA. They make the rules. The shops offering the service dont.

FFS do you people always have to rant on about endless bullshit.

LTSA makes the rules and they clearly state that you low_rider are wrong. Is it so damn hard to accept that you MIGHT have made a mistake?

Even if you do go in to the LTSA and ask them NOT one of the people that work there actually do know every single bloody rule set out for cars etc so they will end up looking at the same database that you can everyone else here has access to to find out the CRAP that you need to know.

OBVIOUSLY a suspension place is most probably going to give the go ahead because they are making the money. It's exactly the same when you go buy a bloody exhaust from pitstop and get it put on by them. They are going to say 'ah she'll be sweet through a WOF bud' but when you take your car through a WOF you get $&#$% cuz it's too loud. They DON'T care because they are making money.

http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/publications/vir-manual/general/2-1a-steering-and-suspension-sys.pdf

13. Any other suspension component:
a) is insecure, or
b) is damaged, significantly corroded, distorted or cracked, or
c) shows signs of welding or heating after original manufacture, or

That listing shows what does NOT need certing.

This may be of interest to someone, I went to a suspension shop today to get a quote on getting springs compressed I got quoted $90 a pair which is what I was expecting. Also, the springs are compressed to be progressive meaning they do not simply put the spring in a vice and heat them :P

So obviously it is a professional job and is done in house not outsourced to an engineer or anything.

In the rules it says they cannot be heated but there is a difference between heating springs and getting them properly done.

I will be doing this :)
