Help with transplant

Ok so I picked up a cheap 86 corolla this week from work, its got a pretty decent body, but thing is the standard 2e motors fecked so I was thinking of either finding another 2e to stick in it or maybe a 4a-ge or similar, seeing as its easier to find one of these (I tried finding a 2e but cant seem to)...

From what Ive heard most of these share gearboxes and all I need is a bellhousing - mounts etc are all apparently the same.

Anyone have any comments on this? Am I in for a shitstorm of hidden costs or is it all pretty straightforward? I can do all the work myself at home, but Im not looking at spending much on it as its just a runaround and it'll be a waste to strip such a good car for parts

If I was to go back and do it again I would stick with an E series engine. There are mounts to be changed and to do it properly you will need a 4AGE gearbox as the standard one wont match up properly. Then theres fuel pump, wiring (which I did myself anyway) and cert to add to the costs.
Not as cheap and easy as it sounds. If you decide to go ahead PM me and Ill give you a few pointers.

I assume youve done something similar, so E series is the way to go I guess...

Its only got a 2E in it now, but what are the chances of something a bit bigger fitting in the same place?

Ill need to do some more research but my flatmate has the exact same car (same year etc) but its got a 1600 motor (cant remember engine code) so surely they cant be that different?...

anyone got anymore input?
