3SGTE into AE85

Postby Rivit » Mon Sep 20, 2004 11:02 am

Does this engine fit? how much cutting/modification to the engine bay will have to be done? I saw on serious performance 7 a dude with a ae85 trueno with a 3sge and his engine bay didn't look to be cut in anyway.
would it be cheaper in terms of power vs. cost to put the 3sgte instead of the 4age turbo?

the 3SGTE in the sillycar, mr2 and caldina is slanted over a bit, u would prolly have to correct this (making the engine sit strait), i assume engine oiling issues may be a problem after? the engine mounts on the block are not in the best location for this setup either (from memory)

now u need a gearbox that will fit as the above cars were not FR cars.

maybe the 3S conversion you saw was from a altezza, which has a north south non slanted engine, u might even be able to use the gearbox as well. im sure the cost would be a real issue though and its not a turbo engine soo.......

dont know if it would fit.. i assuem not very well without a lota help from MR blowtorch.

so im thinking a turbo 4age would be a bit cheaper option

Ive seen afew articles on a 1G fitted into them (6cyl) so a 3s will for sure. Theres been quite afew discussions on bellhousings and mods required to convert to rwd, and while being a fair amount of work it is for sure do-a-ble.
Someone on here had a 3s-w5# bellhousing for sale a while ago.
as well as your standard break, fuel line, puta/loom mods you may need to modify the crossmember, but Im not sure.
Cant believe im still a member here.

to be honest id go with the 4age turbo

just allows you to spend more on the gogo side and less on the cut cut and cert

And because you can just about go and just buy all the bits to make a 4age fit which makes meverything a lot easier.
