head re-surfacing

Postby kingcorolla » Tue Sep 21, 2004 8:59 pm

just dropped my head off at the specialist, and want them to mill 1mm off, now before i want them to do it, i need to know something..

i got my head worked on my old 4k, and it turned out the motor had recently been recon'd, and allready milled of the edges( due to warpage), and when i put the re-skimmed head back on, it was too much! the valves hit the pistons. I dont want this to happen again.
is there a specification for cheacking the the head surface is up tp factory spec? maybe cc'ing the chamber? any ideas?

if it's a road car don't bother.
if you do whack a 1mm off the head you may end having to get adjustable cam wheels to get it timed properly , you will also place unnecessary stress on the rods/bottom-end when you sit on idle in traffic.

cheers for the help, but thats the thing.. it ISNT a road car, i DO plan on buying adjustable cam wheels, presition timed/tuned on a dyno, and shortblock is currently getting big end work to aid added stress from compression/high RPM eg. TRD shells, ARP bolts, ballanced rods, new gudgeons etc etc

sorry for totally contradicting ure post. back to my question....

Is it a 4k that you are asking about because i'm pretty sur they have a measuring point on the head to tell how much has been taken off.
