problems with a fuse.......

Ok i recently put a stereo in my starlet (kp62) now when ever i rev my engine more than 3000rpm it will blow my indicator/battery light/fuel guage/engine temp fuse.
it had a 15amp fuse (which ive replaced many times now ) Ive checked the engine manual just incase it is suposed to be a 20amp fuse but no luck there.

What could it be thats doing this???? i dont think the stereo is causing it because its on a diffrent power line but its only started doing this after the instal. and if the regulator in the alternator wasn't working wouldnt it be blowing all of the fuses?? Thats all i can think of can any one else help me out????

u say its bang on 3000rpm? or just high revs? and does your kp have a rev counter?

your regulater could be playing up..and your starlet alternater does not have a internal regulater, its an external, and it sits on the rite side of the bay, on the front of the strut tower. Little black box with a plug on it. Id say its worth testing if this is $&#$%, just borrow a mates and swap them temporarily. Try that, then report back dude.

You sure its on a different wire? Sounds like you've tapped into a wire you shouldn't have and its just pulling too much current. If its blowing the lights you say then its probably the red wire giving you issues (ACC wire to the stereo) so try running that straight to the battery and going for a drive to see if its still happeneing. If not then there is your problem, find a different wire to use.

but if hees sure that its only at a certain RPM, (not volume) then it could relate to the charging system, which powers the accecorys while running.

mind you, if he has tappped into a dash feed wire, drawing that much current throughout rev range, while being regulated... ye i think HRT's on to it there, but id still check the regulator's all good, if u or a mate has one handy.

My car started mysteriously blowing the dash light fuses, so I decided to be daring (and cheap) and change the the next fuse size up. Meh, it worked, and that was 6 months ago!

HRT i did think of that, but when the fuse blows the radio still works fine and im sure i didnt wire it into there but thanks i'll pull the stereo out this weekend and swap the acc over just incase.

kingcorolla yeh i know that box i'll try that aswell this weekend.

Dr-x, a 20amp fuse didnt last longer than 0.5sec @ 3000rrpm i dont think any higher will work to well either
