I think it would be unlikely that there was a factory option LSD for this model.
TRD produced an LSD for it but these were discontinued a couple of years ago.

never know, they may have prob just never reached our shores, there are freak models of bits and peices that just never made big production and stayed in japan, but as an 86 rear end came factory i think they would have used that instead, so an 85 lsd would be pretty unlikely.

If you watched Initial D, you'd know that they didn't ;)

Well it's possible to put one in an AE85, but it wasn't a factory option.
That was probably the left overs of a 85.6 conversion that someone had done :)

ae85 l.s.d.

Postby crispy'86 » Thu Sep 23, 2004 11:03 pm

No ae85's came out of factory with l.s.d., only time one would have one is if someone put one in at some stage with either ae86/te71 diff or kept ae85 diff and put one in that.

diff

Postby Grotty » Fri Sep 24, 2004 9:37 am

nope this is an ae85 diff, smaller than 6.7 because i got it for my 86 diff thinking i got a lsd for 65 bucks! also thinking someone had put a t series drum brake diff in the back because why would there be an lsd in a poos 3a powered car that was also an auto beast..

but is to small and doesnt bolt into the t series 86 diff., Its bigger than dx because it didnt bolt in that.. its about 6.3 and bolts into my 85 diff housing, fits axles etc....

So either aftermarket or factory, rest of the car was stock, and rusty!.
It was a treuno facelift coupe, 1986. Diff is mechanical, locks by gears.

there is only one diff listed for the ae85 and its not lsd.
if you find an ae85 with an lsd its after market. there may have been a hiace or something that used the same centre as the ae85 and some one transplanted that. but you could NOT get an ae85 with factory lsd

actually that kinda makes sense if it was out of an auto, the AE85 i was gonna do up had a locker in it so i bought a spare rear end which was out of an auto, the donor car was absolutly rooted rusty as and smashed but had low ks, also being a one lady owner i guess it never really got thrashed, anyways i put this into my AE85 and it worked awesome, granted i only had 14s on it that were not that wide or gripped that great but it slid so easy and did two wheels when ya held a foot on the brake, i think the auto ones must just be more tightly wound or something also they are possibly geared different to ones from a manual so that also could have helped. i know it wasnt an lsd but worked similar to one although this was all low speed testing as my trusty 3au was moaning at me for trying it at even slow speeds :?

An AE85 i saw at a wreckers in patiki rd rosebank over a year ago, had a factory LSD in it . The chassis code was definitly AE85 and the diff code was S413. I checked the diff as it was already jacked up and im absolutly certain it had the LSD in it. It also had an Auto(A41) gearbox in it.

The only other car ive seen a "S" series (6.38 inch) LSD diff in is an 83 starlet

the only lsd in the ae85/ae86 range is in the ae86 with the trans code t283.
anything else is NOT factory fitted. it may have been factory in something else, but not the ae85/86

Why then would it have on the chassis plate " S413 " as a diff code

According to toyota's records this code works out at

S = 6.38 inch crownwheel
41 = 4.100 ratio (or 4.556)
3 = 1.5 way Limited Slip Centre (factory fitted)

and the chassis code was AE85-*****

Cars like that just dont last here in Auckland, I did go back to get it and the whole car had already been purchased from the wrecker.

In japan i believe they had the "tick the options" form when ordering an AE85/86 and one of the options was the LSD. Along with other crazy stuff like a factory baby booster seat. I have a picture of a brochure somewhere with the options on it (in japanese of course)

hmmm i could understand it being a dealer fitted option, but theres no record of it being factory which is odd cause if its factory they would at least have a listing for the clutchs etc for repair
