Centre seat to fit small child in an AW11 ?

Postby ..::ROCKETMAN::.. » Sun Sep 26, 2004 12:49 pm

This might seem like a silly question, but does anyone know of a way to fit a small seat into the limited amount of space between the seats of an AW11 ? The problem is, we have a 15mth old son, so my wife and I can't go out in the MR2 anymore. My mate and his wife have a 15mth old son also, so they can't go out with us in their MR2 either !! Does anyone know of anyone who has solved this problem ? Would it even be legal ? Obviously, any seat fitted would have to be very safe and also look good in the car too. Neither of us are going to part with our cars, so any help on this would be greatly appreciated. :?

From my Wife who works at The Baby Factory, placing a child seat between the two seats would most likely be illegal, She suggests contacting your local branch of her work, and ask them for a contact for a custom seat fitter.

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks for that suggestion. I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a go. :)

they only way i can see it happening is if you make mounts etc, it will need a cert too. the other problem i can see, is there room? not only between the seats, but behind the gear lever, dont wanna castrate him with a qwik down change!!

We have my wife's Honda to run around in. The plan is to be able to get us all into the MR2 so we can go places with the MR2 club. 8)

I was serviceing the alarm at a place called Trimtech. They make bus seats. I was asking their factory manager a few questions about fitting seats in my car. He suggested asking the LTSA, as they have the criteria required, and the final say on legality, etc. Of course, the problem of sufficient space will only get worse as my son grows. Could be I'm pushing shit up hill on this one eh ? :(

Buy ANOTHER MR2 and then you can show up with yours and your wifes MR2! Problem solved! :D
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Get the interior, seats, steering assembly from a McLaren F1 (they are a 3 seater with the driver in the centre even!) and then retrofit it to your mr2. Perfect.

contact LVVTA (Low Volume Vehicles Technical Association) 09 268-9550 and get a certifier contact near to you, and see about having alternative seat belt mounting points approved/fitted to your vehicle.

It *might* be possible
