things under front seats????

Postby B_giB » Sun Sep 26, 2004 11:09 pm

I was looking under the drivers seat of me AE101 today and noticed that there was a small box that felt like it was connected to some wires, so i looked under the seat and sure enuff there was, sorta brown in colour (coulda been the bad light), and it also looked like an antenna wire coming out if it, so i thought i would look under passenger seat and there was a larger box (about the same size as seat) velcro'd to the carpet with wires coming out of it.

can anyone shed some light on what these could be???????

cheers

Some models came out with a weird stereo system that had an amp under the passengers seat. The amps no more powerful than a std head unit though.

Unplug it and see what doesn't work.

Yep, its just your standard amp that some cars came with. If you unplug it your stereo and speakers will not get any power. So, let it be unless you have a better item to replace it with.

My one crapped out shorty after i bought my car and i had to rewire the hole lot with some proper sounds and new amp. But yeah, its your standard amp. And yes, its quite shit. :?

the right one is probably a signal booster, the left one is definitely the amp. I had an amp and theres a signal booster somewhere in my car (cause i had to feed +12v down a wire to get any signal) but i dont know where it is exactly. Maybe it is under my drivers seat... i havent exactly looked.

I found out where that is in one of my forays to Pick-a-Part. It's in the Passenger-side C-Pillar, near the top, and connects to the un-heated part of the rear demister, which is the aerial. in the other C-Pillar is the control box for the rear windshield wiper IIRC.

Yes correct. almost all toyota aerial amps are there.

the wires can also be that one that tells the dash if and when u are wearing your seatbelt, if u unplug it the light in your dash will never light up even if ur not wearing your seatbelt,
i suggest wearing it.

The one under the drivers seat will most likely be the factory central locking unit. Thats was what mine was and it was removed when I had my alarm fitted. Unplug it and see if your central locking doesn't work.
