Front mount on AE101

Postby aesc » Wed Sep 29, 2004 11:48 am

Hi, well ive just bought a VR4 intercooler for my GTZ and was wondering how im gonna plumb it up. How do i get the pipes through to the front bumper? Do i need to do any modding at all? And what points can I mount it off?

Thanks

Yeah i realise that but not sure how to get them past the radiator as there doesnt seem to be any room to get them through. Do they go under the radiator?

There was a guy selling some pipes for front mounting an i/c for an ae101 on trademe recently, he reckons they went under the front cross member. That doesnt leave much geround clearance if ya cars been lowered a bit! Im sure theres another way

well ive got the same problem wit my pipe work for my turbo.
I mounted my large Front mount off the bumper iron, just cut off the cetre support and bolted it on, then made a brace for the botom of the intercooler.

pipe work, there is enough clearence to go just between the radiator and my turbo with 2" then going back out to 2.5". But ive gota 20v turbo not a GTZ.

Im not sure about 20Vs, but GTZs have quite big radiators, they basically span between the headlights so im not sure how i can get the pipework around it.

Boot mount the radiator, along with ya battery.....

on a more serious note, look at getting a different radiator, that suits the size you have to play with :P

i was looking at mine yesturday, it's an ae92 gtz, shouldn't be much diff, for the return up to the throttle body, the piping should be able to go from the i/c to (assuming you've goten rid of ALL the factory airbox sh*t) to under the guard and cut the whole out that coms up by battery, go through there and up to throttle body,

could be a lil long though, it's the easiest option i could see. and from the s/c, i dont know, i'd have to have another look, mine has pop up lights, so bit more shit in the way,

ask www.mods.co.nz, he has done it to his ae92.

sorry i couldn't help more.

cheers

I've got my AE92 with the battery in the boot, pipe to the intercooler going around the end of the radiator, pipe from it going around behind the drivers side headlight and to the throttle body... but then again I've got my manifold on backwards :P

btw, fired it up tonight Bazda and took it for a quick thrash. Its got a soft as actuator in for now just til things are all sorted right and tuned. 4psi, doesn't sound like much but it goes quite nicely :)

lol, not too sure. Still goes alright with only a little boost. Plan for tomorrow night is to wind it up a little and see what we can get. Dont just wanna crank it for fear of blowing the damn thing up. I'll try to get some pics when I actually get it back home :) Somehow got a small hole in he radiator so thats gonna have to be fixed/replaced before I can drive it home though :(
