aircon removal and alternator relocation

Postby scooter » Fri Oct 01, 2004 10:49 am

hey all

1992 Toyota Celica GT4

as stated i need to remove the aircon (as much of it as possible) and relocate the alternator in its place to make room for my front mount intercooler pipes. (btw if anyone has any idea for that would be much appreciated).

the question is though is there anything to watch out for. what needs to be done to make the alternator bolt up ? can i use the same mount or does something have to be modified ?

thanks

Why do you need to move the alterntor? All FMIC on the GT-Four I've seen leaves it in place.

Why???

It's not as if you're gonna stow away a spare wheel in there or something. Why make yourself extra work??

guys he dont post on here to be told what not to do.. the a/c is a power drain on the engine anyway..

imguessing it mite be a cuntt to relocate the alternator, but id suggest u get a specialist to remove the a/c, as it contains refridgerant..

moving the alternator might require a bit of fabrication, just find the spot u want, make sure its lined up with pulleys etc.. the just make a template mount just to see your on the right track.

im not speaking from experience, but if i were to do this, this is what id EXPECT to do

relocation

I dont know how much room you need but went we make your piping on our cars we removed the air con system and compressor totally but we gut the compressor housing and only use the rotating pully and bearing housing and bolt it back up only with the two bolts closes to the pully. This allows as i bit more room in the area.It is easier to do it this way than to reinvent the wheel.

hey kingcorolla. yeah its bastard stuff. have had it degassed this morning using a local company. cost me nothing so thats allways good. will see what room is left once aircon gear is gone. hey who know might not need to relocate it. just means my IC pipe dosnt rise up to much. i was wondering if there are any 3s (f or g or gt ) e's that ran alternator at the bottom ?!. must be a model round that dosnt run aircon ?!

thanxs

Mines a standard VR4 intercooler: Core Measurements should be: 19.7cm x 41.5cm x 6.5cm = 5314cm^3
Looking at upgrading that soon ... still looking for something that will fit, but gives better cooling. Don't want to have to get one custom made if I don't have to.
