What should I be paying for Shocks

Postby darkman0101 » Wed Sep 29, 2004 3:20 pm

One of my rear shock is stuffed.
It will compress fine but is real slow on the rebound stroke.
Sometimes it frees up but if you bounce th car a couple of times it will lock up.

Apparently one of the valves might be jammed/blocked.
I have left it since changing the brake calliper in the hope it would come right but it hasn't.

Therefore,
what is a set of shocks gonna set me back?
I could go for a nice set of sporty adjustable type jobbies.

AE92 Toyota Corolla FXGT (1990).

Cheers,
Jas

KYB replacement's for stock units start at around $100 a corner, think I paid $80 each for my last ones direct from stocks. Monroe's etc will start about the same so probably $400-600 a set plus maybe a little more for fitting if you can't do it yourself.

Single Adjustable Koni's or Non adjustable(no bump/rebound adjustment, height only) bilsteins are around $500 a corner depending on the car or $2000 a set. Advantage here is you get a way better shock for your money & these can be rebuilt/revalved rather than throwing them away.

Double Adjustable Koni's, adjustable bilsteins(yes they do them), teins, DMS, AVO, Leda, Proflex, Ohlins etc are from $2000 a set upwards depending on how serious you want to go, i.e. remote reserviors/alloy bodies etc add to cost but these are really a waste of time unless you seriously using your car for track work & KNOW how to set them up PROPERLY.
