4A-GE block differences

Postby Stealer Of Souls » Mon Oct 04, 2004 1:05 am

Hey,

What's the differences between the actual 4A-GE blocks. Not any of the internals, just the blocks themselves...
I hope you all get what I mean...

bluetop - 3 ribs
the rest - 7 ribs
other small bullshitt differences, like rear main seal housing.

redtop (onwards) have oil squirters in the block as well.

I though the oil squirters were only on the small port redtop onwards?

Ribs are the reinforcing ribs that go up the block, the blue top has 3 and the red top has 7, hence the red top being a stronger block.

the squirters were added when they went to small port.

and the ribs ppl are talking about are on the back of the engine (opposite side to the oilfilter)

for differemces between the 2 20vs engines see the sticky above.
i think there are a few differences between the smallport and the 20v blocks. sump mating surface i think.

so essentially theres stuff all differences. Physically the blocks are BASCIALLY all the same...

I've got the option of obtaining a redtop that screwed, and I thought I might use the block as the base for a turbo build engine. Get a new head, internals etc...

I have a few different blocks and the main problem i've found is a few of them have the thread for the knock sensor either between cyl 2 +3 or 3+4
