Reccomended springs for an ae82 fxgt?

Postby ChaosAD » Sun Jan 11, 2004 7:05 pm

Im after some decent lowering springs for my ae82 as it as high enough for me to crawl under 8O and it handles like crap.

Ive heard that superlow kings are too soft and that they scrape, heard the same about dobi's. And ive also heard that whiteline springs are a bit soft.

Are there any springs that anyone can reccomend? what are the lowering king springs like (as opposed to the super lows).

I had Jamex springs in my AW11 MR2, along with KYB shocks. Good combo and nice and low, but being progressive the ride wasn't to harsh.
The big thing that helped my handling was my TRD spec wheel alignment. She loved corners then, but chewed the inside of the tyres a wee bit, due to crazy camber.

ok man with ae82 fxgt's they take quite a bit to scrape they have to be on their ass and thats illegal any way

my fxgt is running sabre springs and munroe shocks very good combo handels very well
king springs  hrm cant say to much bout them my mates fxgt has them they fall out all the time and are soft

when modifiying suspention good idea is to replace worn rubbers as well because with its new stance (low) it will wear everything in different places and the car will fell sloppy do shocks at the same time also

another good brand id recomend is dobersons there awsum

yeah i'd go with the jamex springs as well. they give pretty good results on the fx's

it doesnt take alot to make them scrape if you've got decent sized rims on em.... ask badassmofo

Choas AD

I've got Super low king springs in my ae82 and I think they handle fine - not soft at all - and no body roll compared to the stock springs.

I've had them in for about 2 months and they haven't scraped once even when pushing them round some tough corners.

They're a 50mm drop and look great too.
Turn it up!

That wont be the springs fault superlows plus standard shocks prob wont work

We use in the ae82 race car Bilsteins and king springs and have no probs

I struggle to see how you can sucessfully punt a fxgt around a circuit with superlow Kings springs! They are only slightly firmer then standard and even then due to their progressive design they are only firmer once they nearly fully bound! I would say your shocks are set extremely firm and over working themselves to control your soft spring rates 8O

So what do you guys reccomend for an ae82 club car without going to coilovers?
Has anyone here actually tried jamex or whiteline etc?

i would stay well away from kings for track use, good for looks crap for handling is the norm with them (remember we are talking track car here.. road car suspension does not apply)

whiteline have a good rep, but again mainly for road use. autolign can convert your shocks (as per email) but its weird they dont do adjustable.
mattrick: are your billies adjustable for damping?

jamex has a very good rep in the uk, pm tokico he can do those, and also as his name implies tokico shocks. thats one brand i havnt enquierd about

how diffs the rear mounts between ae82/ae92? theres plenty of bits for the 92, but no one stocks stuff for the 82 anymore.

I have an AE82 and I have it at factory height, factory platforms with king springs (slightly progressive, don't know the part no.) and KYB inserts. I didn't assemble them and don't know the part numbers for those either but all the work cost me $1,300. I just put them on the car.
It handles alright with my good tyres on seal. I would recommend a stronger rear sway bar as my car turns in a lot better once I put the whiteline rear swaybar on. That was $300.
I don't think my setup is a good track setup though. So if you want to sit flat and even and corner really hard on seal then don't do what I did. But on the plus side I don't need a cert. :D

On my AE92 I use dobi progressive rate springs, with monroe gas shocks. And they are great, handle well, doesnt ride harsh.

Setup for an AE82 (imo of course)

Street: Superlow Kings are just fine, they're better than choppys and they're budget so you're not really gonna get better value for money.
KYB shocks are toyotas shock maker anyhow so you really can't go wrong.

You will also want to get a thicker rear swaybar - if you're going hard this will basically cause liftoff oversteer which is easily correctable by planting boot again.

You'll also be wanting to look at all your suspension bushes and replace them with either new rubber or if you're hard then urethane (sp) bushes work well but your ride quality will be poo. - superpro make the ones you're probably going to want.

Track/Khana: You'd have to check this for yourself but I would presume the best setup would be http://www.whiteline.com.au/articles/RH ... nCam_a.htm

I have heard good things about whiteline stuff and it's not too expensive either.

I am about to come into an ae82 that will need real handling so am just going for the kybs and the superlows and the rubber bushes and the swaybar...
