I have Super Low Kings with Monroe GT-Gas shocks in my FXGTZ and it's utter shit.

They're ok for average driving, or even just above.. But when I go for a mean blat out the country on the twisty roads I start to feel it big time.

I'm quite confident all 4 of my shocks have been destroyed by the superlow's.. someone here mentioned something about my shocks working overtime to compensate for the soft spring..

I'm definitely looking to upgrade sometime in the new future.

I'm confident i'll fail my warrant in a few weeks on my shocks~

Ive been in an ae82 with that same setup and it had a lot of body roll and the tyres bubbed on the gaurds on every bump. So I guess certain springs in an ae92 arent comparable to the same brand in an ae82.

I was tempted by the whitelin setup till I saw on the second page of the article that their springs are softer than the springs they were comparing them against (are those yellow springs in the article kings?)

Aparently the front suspension on the ae82 is the same as the ae92/ae101/ae111, you just have to change the top hat.
I think the rear uses smaller springs (and therefore higher spring mounts), but what if you used ae92 springs and shocks in an ae82?

Im now thinking about getting Snells to knock me up a set of custom springs ($190+gst a pair) but dont know what spring rate to go for. What rates are u guys using on your coilovers?

i got super low king springs in my ae92 corolla sedan... lowered it a bit, but not much in my opinion (see my profile in sig)

im going to see my suspension guy this week to see if i can get shorter suspension inserts put in to lower the car even more.

as for cornering, the way it is feels real good... virtually no body roll but the comfort hasnt gone either. they are soft when you push down on the car, but i wasnt going for drift / race stifness (not that my car could drift or race, its fwd and slow)

grips good, everything seems sweet.. guess ill find out whats wrong after i go see the guy bout it all..

will post what happens.

I have standard toyota shock bodies with (non adjustable 35mm piston) bilstein inserts that have been converted to height adjustable platforms fitted with linear rate 65mmID king springs (280lb/in front, 200lb/in rear) in my AE82, unfortunately as the car is still much a work in progress i have not been able to give it a fang to see how this set up really works however I am quietly confident it will work okay8) I think these spring rates are about as firm as you would want to go on AK roads, definitely no issue with these puppies bottoming out!

Having said that i'm pulling them out and throwing them into my carib as it has TRD's wonderful WAYDO/RSR suspension in it and while it looks great scraping along the road it is just not me as it's combination of soft progressive rate springs and short stroke shocks designed for boulevard crusing are making me all giddy :?

I would recommend staying away from the usual named brands of aftermarket springs as they really are too compromised for serious driving!

To get back on topic, short of going coilover, get Snells to knock you up some hard linear springs and get some standard fitment koni's or bilsteins or something you can have customed valved to suit your choice of spring rate and you'll be on track to making it handle!!

???? I think you will find that the likes of Autolign & Stocks can get these items in however in the interests of only importing fast moving stocklines they bring in various inserts and fit the closest one.

My Bilsteins are barely 18months old and Autolign fitted them into a AE101 shock body which coincidentally fitted directly into my AE82, likewise the rears are AE101 rear shocks that were gutted, fitted with a gland nut and fitted with a bilstein insert. Quite possibly you cannot buy a complete shock assembly that bolts up straight off the shelf however these professionals will, given a standard shock convert your standard shock to fit a performance insert that fits into the standard mounting points and fits a standard fixed seat style spring. This constitutes a standard fitment in my book

iv already called them
stocks can do a koni system, u send them your old ones they rebuild them, $500+ per corner or $300+ if you dont mind taking them out to adjust for the $500 option you might as well go full coilover from DMS or whoever

autolign do bilstein and according to the staff they are adjustable in height only (coilovers) no damping adjustment option. $450+ per corner...

Stocks have a standard insert for the front of ae82 koni adjustable dampner as i have these in my car .
For the rear that is when u have to take them out and get an insert made to suit :D

Funny that like i said

Don't overlook the fact that Bilsteins can be valved to suit an exact application so effectively are completely customisable/adjustable... definitely not adjustable on the flythough yes you need to pull them out and have them revalved everytime you want to change bound and rebound rates, but IMHO my preference is the bilsteins over koni's as mine have 35mm pistons, definitely aren't gonna bend easily on Aklds potholes:lol:
