Steel Mesh

Postby Just_Juzz » Fri Oct 08, 2004 9:35 am

Hey People,

I'm wanting too fill up my ugly front bumper with some "Race Mesh"

The problem is, I dont want to pay $60 for 1 piece that won't do the whole lot.

$120 for 2 pieces, and I wont use the whole lot.

Anyone know where the hell I can buy some of the same mesh for cheaper? Or a bigger piece.

800x400 just aint enough.

Cheers,

- J

Mico metals in Palmy do huge sheets of it for $120. There next size down are the same size as repco ones for $30. You could get the big sheet and sell what you dont use on... don't know if Mico metals is a Palmy only thing or if there is one in Wellington

Anyway ask around some metals places and if they're no help I'd suggest a panel beater too

Anyone know where you can get some large square mesh like they have on front of dirt track cars.

The squares needa be about 15x15 cm - need some for my race car but haven't a clue where to find some.

Its reinforcing mesh. You can get it at all steel merchants. We run stainless oven trays! as the vertical lines don't make you dizzy, a cross hatch will direct your focus from the track and will cause an optical illusion that actually effects your balance.

Thanks RedMist. Any idea how much it costs? Just need enough for the windscreen of my Starlet.

Damn scrutineering people moaning that i have a windshield with wipers - good for cleaning the dirt off I say!

Just Juzz, we are talking about two different types of mesh here. The reinforcing mesh is used for concrete foundations and has a 15 - 20 cm square mesh. Its also used for dirt track cars to stop large objects from other cars decapitating the driver. Unfortunately no idea on costing for either (although I do have a spare sheet here!)
