taking out the A/C in AE92 Levin?

ok... im taking out my A/C as the bearings in the belt wheel are $&#$% and grinding, im toying with the idear of taking out the whole A/C system completely, including the pump and replacing the pump with a free wheeling pully wheel on a solid bracket..... has any one tried anything like this?
i can get the brackets made up for $&#$% all, just have to design them...
if i got a few made up and tested would any one be keen on one themselfs, possibly for any car?

Why not just use a shorter belt and no bother with the extra pulley?

Cant just use a shorter belt, aircon drives the power steering pump.

Took mine out when doing the turbo conversion and got a pulley machined on the inside to fit perfectly over the existing power steering pulley lip so its basically a double pulley and got a long as belt that goes crank -> idler -> power steering -> alternator and back to the crank. If you go that way make sure you line it up perfectly otherwise the belt will have a tendancy to try to get itself in line (ie jumping off the pulley).

Other option would be to grind a bit off the existing bracket and space the power steering over so you're only got the one pulley on it and run it the same way.

Or you could just do it your way and have an idler pulley set up for the power steering. If you do that its one more belt to have though I guess.

Heaps of ways to do it, just comes down to how you want it done.

yea there are a lot of options, but the easy one and basic one (says a lot about me hehe) is to straight replace the a/c/pump with a bracket and a free spinning pully wheel....

Easiest option is to just fit another a/c pump isn't it?
Even if you dont hook up the piping.

If you're going to the trouble of making up a bracket then why not just have a new bracket for the power steering pump and run it with the alternator?

I don't know what an AE92 is like, but in my AE82 i just took the aircon pump and assiciated brackets off, got a shorter belt to go on the crank pully and power steering pump, and then swung the power steering pump out on it's hinge thingie (like a alternator hinge) and tightened it up there so there was tension on the belt. To stop it loosening off I made an L shaped bracket which attached to the top of the pump and has a long screw that winds in and presses against the block. This way the pump can't swing back towards the engine and loosen the belt.
Sounds dodgey but it's been like that for almost a year and hasn't faltered, and it's super easy.

on my ae101 20v levin, i removed the aircon completely for the turbo conversion. I removed that pulley completely, and went with a shorter belt, all spins freely. just had to make an adaptor to fit between the block and a pulley wheel to get the belt to fit.
