supercharger noise

I currently have an ae101 supercharged levin. Upon boosting it, it makes a hell of a noise. I've narrowed it down to the supercharger. Has anyone got any ideas or thoughts? I've done a search on here but nothing really helps. I've got a spare supercharger, I was thinking that I could just swap them over, but I had a quick look today, looks like a bitch of a job to do. Has anyone do it before??

They are a bit of a bitch to replace. FIrst thing to check would be the supercharger oil (dipstick around the back, you'll see a yellow wingnut with a bit of hunting)

If the oil is low don't make the mistake of putting any old oil in there!!
(would be interesting though!)

the correct oil from a Toyota dealer is only about $12.50 for 50mls.

also check the belt is worn and slipping

this is going to sound dumb but check ur intercooler for leaks mine had a credit card width gap in it and made a loud nosie and made the car fee rev

but what type of nosie like a nosie only when reving or what??????

oil levels are sweet, as too are the belts and the intercooler. The noise sounds like a $&#$% bearing or something. It definatly sounds like a metal sound. Any thoughts

It sounds like the magnetic clutch on the supercharger has a flogged out but thats not 100% cause i haven't heard it. But wat u can do is disconnect the clutch to the supercharger by pulling the wiring to the unit off so the supercharger will not engage. If the noise is still present when driven, then take the belt off and drive it again. If u cant find it i am more than happy to look at it for ya.

there is a relay for the supercharger on the passenger side or the engine bay, on the firewall, has a little cover that says supercharger relay on it, there is a connector on that line between the relay and the supercharger, unplug that, (yes it will be gutless as ) see if the noise is gone then

and dont take the belt off, it has the water pump on it, and i really suggest you keep that going.

U can take the belt of and drive for a short stint, but not to auckland and back obviously!!!!

When my supercharger belt tensioner fell off I drove it for about 15 mins, very carefully of course and with one eye on the temp gauge. Temp didnt rise at all

have pulled the relay off. The noise disappears. Must be the supercharger itself. Is it possible that the bearings could be $&#$% in it?

ok now check the pulley bearing on the s/c " this is the most comon bearing to go " its the one in the s/c housing

then check the pulley bearing this is the next bearing to go

ok, I've just had it checked out by a garage. Apparently the clutch on the supercharger is $&#$%. The supercharger is fine, just the supercharger clutch has seen better days.

if u have takin the pulley of change the pulley bearing all it is is a a/con bearing about $50 this will save hassel latta on
