Caldina - plug going nowhere? wtf..

Postby snwtoy » Sat Oct 23, 2004 9:21 pm

What is this plug for? It wasn't plugged in when I got the car, and if I feel around inside I can't reach anything that it might have been connected to. Have checked with another owner and theirs goes nowhere also... it's a mystery!
These images pretty much sum it up (rear hatch opened if you can't work out where the pics are taken):

It's either a rearscreen demister that's not hooked up, or a glassmount antenna that's not hooked up.

Considering it has two wires, it's most likely a demister, all you have to do now is find where the rest of the wire has gotten to...

yeah - antenna is on the side windows at the rear - although only 1 window will be hooked up - on mines its left rear. Theres a small signal booster just under the roof lining. You mystery plug has to be demister - god know what else it could be!

The wires for the demister are in the bottom left and rignt corners of the window. I am 100% sure that the demister works.
Al - go check yours out and I guarantee it's not plugged in either :)
Is the signal booster connected by default? Cos my reception is crap (crappy band expander?).
I went to look at it cos I was looking for the aerial - sometimes it's easier to plug a band expander into the aerial end - in this case I settled for pulling the stereo out.
So the side windows - one is for aerial and the other is for the gps thingy?

The signal amplifier for the stereo should be plugged in by default, however you have 6to make sure its getting 12v from up front... from memory its a black wire with red stripe - if you dont have the head unit remote 12v out hooked up to it you wont hardly get any decent reception. In saying that i cant get george FM that well either - and mined hooked up!

Alot of car manufactures use a generic wiring loom for parts of there cars that is used on numeorus models & as such the plug you are referring to could do nothing on a caldina but on another car could be used. Engine bay looms are usually the worst for this as some manufacturer's basically have all the plugs for their various engine/gearbox combo's in the one loom.
