wouldnt the led create it's own circuit and therefore be 'on' the whole time whether the switch is on or off?

no but that would do the opposite,
running the led in series, would force it to be ON when the ECU is grounding the VSV curcuit (eg butterflys closed), and i want it ON when the butterflys are open, hence me wiring it this way.

LED's draw a very low current. With a 560 ohm resister for the LED, there is also no potential difference between the LED earth and the ECU earth, so the LED would not light when theres power in the original curcuit, yet it will when VSV is open curcuited (butterlfys open).

Anyone an auto-sparky who can see the method in my madness?
chers for the interest.

Why not do it properly. Go to Jaycar and buy a frequency switch kit.

This will let you set the desired RPM switching point for the t-vis.

Just thinking though: having a (nos!) push button on the steeringwheel to open up the t-vis DOES have major wank factor. Even if it doesnt make you any faster.... it'd sound cool and give the impression that your doing something flash.

ye i could do that, but then it would cost me $50, and its currently free :|
But that frequency switch would be better than an on off switch.

and a wanky switch or 2 never hurt anyone

That frequency switch kit sounds awsome, I can just imagine the stuff you could do with it... :D

yea, Jaycar has some really good stuff. Cheap electronic boost controllers, nos injector drivers, stand alone injector drivers ( and hand units to program it), rev limiters/shift light kits... etc etc etc.
