Crewl and unusual punishment for a TPS.

Postby RedMist » Mon Dec 13, 2004 6:11 pm

Gentlemen, put your thinking caps on.

Okay. The background. I'm using a Genboard 3 in order to datalog suspension, steering, G force and engine parameters.

I've got a little bit of an issue with sensors. Specifically it appears that sealed linea pots (TPS type) should give me what I need. However the only ones I'm familiar with are the ones on the 20 valve (which won't suit). I need a TPS that I can mount a lever arm to in order to get suspension movement and another that I can mount a wheel on to meter steering angle. So any TPS that has either a shaft that I can insert or preferrably one with a stub of a shaft alread attached. Any ideas on make and model of car that has such a TPS?

Redmist, dunno what cars have what your looking for standard but if you look at the likes of PI Research or stack they have photos etc of the sensors they use for their datalogging systems some of them aren't cheap but it may give other here an idea of what your after.

Most upper end dataloggers use either linea position sensors ($1k) or a yo yo pot ($400). Considering the Bunderson is constantly showered in rock and I expect to loose the odd sensor I don't wish to run sensors of that value.

I'm keen on developing my own yo yo pot using a TPS.

A lot of our CNC machinery uses a rotary pot for hand jogging the table/slides which could possibly work, dunno on prices but have yet to have one fail & knowing good ole Hyundai they are probably cheap ass ones. An ordinary TPS would work if you sat down & worked out the linkage ratio so that full suspension movement was more or less full tps span plus maybe a little bit extra for those big bumps when everything moves just that bit more.
