Power steering removal Q's

Postby ATAl » Mon Dec 13, 2004 7:26 pm

I'm going to remove the power steering from my ae92 and have a few questions.

-> Is there any way to get wof with a ps rack but no pump (looping lines or so forth)

-> Can the ps rack be swapped for a non ps rack without pulling the engine and what needs to be removed to get at the rack

Finally -> the NZ new non power steering racks do fit right in, right?? any other bits needed?

Thanks

No, the only way that you can do this is to put in a non P/S rack and then have it certified.

why?
where does it state that the ps has to be working?

just makes it heavy as to drive when you are driving a supra with 225s on the front.

haha

Reasons for rejection:

9-1-4. The power steering:
a) has been disconnected, or
b) system does not operate correctly, require unreasonable force to steer the vehicle, or
c) has a hose, pump drive, drive belt or pump mounting that is insecure, damaged, significantly deteriorated, or
d) has a significant fluid leak.

ok thanks everyone, i'll have to get a non ps rack.

But I still need to know if it's possible to get the rack out without the engine being removed first?

it does not state that you CANT change it to a non p/s rack, IF that model of car came without power steering then in my books if it had an option of no power steering then do it. i can garuntee that you guys that do WOF's are not going to sit there for 15 min trying to figure out if it had or didn't have p/s, its not worth your trouble and time. i know i dont if i get a non p/s system on a car :?
just remember to rid of ALL the p/s items, there for new rack etc but why rid of it??

and yes you can remove rack's with out lifting motor. just need to remove rack ends etc off the rack thats all.
