GT4 engine oil?

My MR2 Gen2 turbo is eating oil. about half a litre every 500ks! I have been using 10/40.

should i go for higher weight oils? 15+/40+ how high is too high?

I am guessing synthetic will disappear faster as it thinner right?

You would want to either fix the oil burning or use the thicker oil. The thicker oil will be harder to start on a cold morning and be a bit more sluggish but it will last longer.

It sounds like your car has been trashed to buggery, has an oil leak or needs the turbo reconditioned, or all of the above. Maybe you could look at installing an oil catch can (assuming the piston rings are still intact). Half a litre per 500km sounds very worrying.

Motul is the sh!t, however it cost about $100 per oil change .

My bad I was talking about the V300/800 oils which are freckin expensive. Its what my dad uses on his motorbike and he tryed to convince me to use it on my car. I asked him how much and he said its about $20/L.

Personally i found that for certain cars crappy oils don't last as long i.e need to do an oil change alot sooner and for a turbo sigma well don't they run of the smell of an oily rag.

Oil is oil is oil. I bet you could use the 'wrong' grade oil for years and years, and you'd never notice any change in your car. Especially in New Zealand, where our weather is reasonably consistent, and not too extreme (this coming from a person who has never been to the south island)

Why dont you buy a turbo and put some 20w - 40 full grade oil and drive it hard, then do an oil change with a fully synthetic, then tell me you'd never know.

OK, genius, what would you notice? A faster car? Smoother response? Less turbo lag? Dickheads like you spread stupid rumours like these. I ran my turbo sigma on 20w40 for months, running 12-14psi, and there was no difference between that cheap repco oil, and using 10w30 gtx. Oil is oil is oil, and makes very little difference with our climate. Do you even know what the figures on motor oil mean?

hehehe how little the human brain is when "discussing" these sorts of issues aye?i bet the v8 nz touring cars and formula fords etc are using cheap shitty engine oil especially since they dont have temperature extremes as they race in new zealands "climate".how could i have been so blind?whats the chance that its all a conspricy by the oil companys and ya dont even need oil in ya car?duh ok.doh,just my opinion but get real man.
