mine needs replacing too but im going cross-country in a couple of days so im gonna have to fork out the $60-$100 just for the bearing

anyone know where i can get one cheap in the auckland region? need it pretty much tomorrow

replacing the bearing is all good but they often wear out the bearing flange, and thats a bugger to get, replacing the bearing without checking the flange is a waste of time

they can be tightened if the cv is loose and the play usually goes away.. but the cv becomes loose (if tightned properly before hand of course) because of wear.

tightneing it to get rid of they play will do for your warrent in the meantime if it dosen't become rough afterwards

You cant tighten a bearing, you replace it.

Of course they can be tightened.

FWD bearings NORMALLY cannot be tightened they will need to be replaced specially if noisy, rwd ones yes they can be tightened.

Hmmm, dunno bout toyota's, but I tightened the bearings on my ol' sigma when they failed for play.

Tightening the bearing will get a warrant, But the problem will still be there and the bearing will still need replacing. May get a couple of months more out of it if lucky though. Not a long term solution.

Sometimes it does just need tightening, I had a mates 'rolla one, he thought he had a completely poked bearing, just happened that his axle nut had come loose since no-one had pinned it...

Just wanna get the warrant before xmas. Then in the new year ill definitely replace the bearing.
I havent noticed any noise or a rumbling, which is why I thought a tightening would be sufficient.

I had to do this on my AE111, its a common fault on toyotas according to the mechanic who fixed mine. I had it done about three months ago but i'm still trying to find a cheap flange, toyota want $300-$400 for a new one! owch! It hasn't given me any problems but i know it'll have to be replaced one day.
