4age 16v diff combo

Postby LoRolla » Mon Dec 27, 2004 9:05 pm

Hey i have a 87 2dr dx wagon running a 4age 16v and have blown 3 diffs in a matter of weeks. The first diff i had was apparently rebuild wit new bearings ect, then i had a locker in it and now i decided to get a standard diff casue i ran outta money :P. This whole diff story is still giving me problems, what if the best diff or whole driveline combo to run in my wagon, i dont know what fits and whats the strongest

chers :D

What sort of diffs are you running? I last used an AE85 diff (on my AE86) which held up for months of giving it absolute shit (on the spots, drifts etc) it lasted longer then my AE86 diff, although my AE86 diff does have 280,000kms on it.

don't waste your time with 85 diff.
Next step up would be Corona wagon diff, T series like AE86 but small bearings and drums.
then you can use your handbrake cables.
If you're really hardout, fit a hilux.

That depends entirely on what model KP you have, the later ones have the same diff as the KE70 and the earlier ones can have the KE70 centres fitted.

If you are after a cheap option, measure up an E code Liteace diff. It is stronger than AE85 (S series) or 86 and Corona (T series) diffs, is already leaf spring and should be damn close to the right width. LSD is basically impossible to find, but then most LSD options for you won't be cheap anyway. If you really want LSD and intend to use a 3T-GTE then Hilux is your best option.

Your gearbox will be a T50 or possibly a K50 if it is cable clutch, if you want to run the 3T-GTE I would recommend a W series box which is what they are fitted with factory.
