i/c fan for GT-Four

Postby _will_ » Tue Jan 04, 2005 6:07 pm

Does anyone have a recomendation on what sort of fan to put on top of a St185 GT-Four's i/c?
The heat soak i was getting today was just pissing me off!!!
I know its a common mod, but just don't know what fan will be best.

Thanks :D

theres a couple guys selling 12inch ic fans on trade me that seem to suit the application....

this guys has a pretty good explanation of how to do it

"The air is heavy with antisipation as cozmo revs, drops the clutch and...... stalls with the hand brake on"........ "cozmo's hand brake one, cozmo 0"

Do you think this would significantly affect the performance of the cooler while moving?

id say if it was a decent fan then it would help heaps because the car may be moving quickly but the air flow into the engine bay could still be stuff all at 100kms since the bonnet scoop isnt exactly huge...

Not massively much while moving no. Well not at higher speeds anyway.
Its good for driving around town at slowish speeds (30-40kph or less) so i hear.
Today was really bad cos of the heat as well. My intercooler temp was 15 degrees hotter than yesterday doing the same driving!
Not good for air intake temps, and if the weather stays this way it won't improve.
Might as well have an interheater!

most important factor with the fan is the thickness. There isn't a lot of room and too thicker fan and you wont be able to close the bonnet. I know some people use Davies Craig fans, which need a small amount of trimming or SPAL ones work with no mods but I'm not sure if there is a supplier in NZ.

The guy on trademe says the fans are about 6.5cm thick. I might just do some quick measurments and see if it will fit

Whatever you do make sure you buy a push fan, the most common size for an ST185 is 9"
twosrus.com sell them on there site so get a few ideas off that site and shop around for a better price, or just bight the bullet and buy it off them, I've bought stuff off them in the past and the service is excellent.

Depends on the position or the water to air as compared to air to air... i assume they're in the same position... also I would assume that having the bonnet scoop rather than vent would not be too bad considering an st-165 has not vent or scoop for its water to air

the rc w/a fits fine with normal gtfour bonnet + bumper, and $550 is a very good price for a complete set up
