AE85.5 Diff Help!

Postby rodimus » Wed Jan 05, 2005 12:12 am

Hey guys

I just got my AE85 back with a 4age in it. But my Mechanic finished off the AE85 diff, so now its locked. And just from a couple days driving it i realise its shit too drive on, not to mention illegal. Now Im seriously considering a hilux LSD.

What is involved for the conversion??
What parts will I need??
4 stud or 5 stud??
Price estimate???

And at the mo im running a T50 box. Will this stand up to the abuse?? (eg drift), with the Hilux?? or should I go for W55??

Any Comments Much appreciated

Thanks

What power are you looking for?
If you're hunting some serious ponies then go for a W box and Hilux Diff...
Otherwise just track down a AE86 diff and LSD (or buy TRD LSD if you have money and want something a bit more bling).

Bear in mind that Hilux diff and W box are a lot heavier than a T50 and AE86 diff, and the diff is unsprung weight...

ill prob go for hilux as its prob cheaper in the long run when set up. As Hilux LSD's are far cheaper than TRD. But then again its bit of a mssion to do the conversion, will the ae86 with TRD lsd be strong enough for a 4age?, for drifting? I dont want to keep having to replace diffs.

I think there are a few people who are drifting on AE86 LSDs... Probably perish quicker than a hilux. But if you're not flogging them with serious ponies you'd be okay for a while.

Last I saw...

W box to A engine conversion kit around $500, then needed a tailshaft (drive shaft, prop shaft whatever you want to call it) to suit. Then a Hilux end with, I think, shortened axles (don't quote me can't remember exactly).
Plus of course actually buying a hilux lsd and W box. But I think if you look around you can get both of these for around $500. Again, don't quote me...
