3sge missing / not starting when hot

Postby RAZA » Mon Nov 22, 2004 2:18 pm

having an intermittent problem with the 3sge in the missuses celica

when its cold it starts and runs fine but after a while of being warm it seems to drpo a cylinder, idle rises to about 1600rpm and there is no power when you try to accelerate away from a standstill until about 3000rpm.
then if you stop it it wont start again until its cooled down.

i changed the plugs and leads and its still doing it.
anyone have any other ideas what it might be?

Why might faulty compression cause these symptoms in the wet?

Wasn't talking bout the moisture. If the compression was down in one of the cylinders alot I guess that would be more likely to cause problems when it was cold not warm... My germs.

Here's the really whacky thing, the drive home tonight same weather if not worse, not a problem, just the usual wet smell inside (seals leaking somewhere).

Guessing some down pours get into the electronics like you folks pointed out. Will get the mechanic to check that tomorrow during the WOF. However if things keep going wrong with this thing I might just sell it off for parts and bring in a 98 MR2 :)
