PS Belt rooted

Was driving around about 20mins ago, when suddenly my car starts making this heinous 'FAP FAP FAP' noise, increasing with engine speed, then stopped and now just sounds like stones rolling around in my engine.

At this point, I'm shitting myself, until I get home and discover it's 'just' a rooted power steering belt. Has anyone done a PS belt on a 3SFE? It looks like it's gonna be a bitch, eg lift out engine type job. Any hints? I'm not looking forward to this

Edit: Also, how long can I expect to be able to drive with half a PS belt, before it $&#$% out completely? I really have to do a lot of driving for work. Dammit, this car is costing me a fortune

Should be peice of piss to do.

There will be an adjuster on the p/s bracket so you can loosen it to take the belt off.

Shouldnt cost you much at all. Maybe $15-18 for the belt and 30mins of ur time max to change it over.

i just did belts on a 3sge,

remove the aircon / alternator belt.
youll have to remove the wheel to make it easy,
once jacked up and wheel off
remove the black plastic guard under the car on that side of engine, 2 bolts and it swings out of the way,

there is a 14mm head bolt on the power steering pump at the base of it, undo that and swing the pump to loosen the belt, had to use a pry bar as it was pretty tight,

then the belt was pretty easy to get on / off.

That's good to hear. It looks like a mission, but I havent had a chance to give it a good look (lol I'm not going under there, I'm still in my suit! ). Good to know it's not too tough a job. Will do it on Saturday, if it lasts that long

Woot, and car is going into panelbeaters/painters on Monday, then just have to get a new 17" wheel to replace the bent one, get some new shocks all 'round, and I'll be nearly finished spending money on this car *sigh*

Shouldn't be too much of a problem, taking out an engine to do a PS belt is pretty Xtreme.

Done. Took an hour off work and had a shot. Went just like evil_si said it would...nice and easy. Took about 30-45mins, and $15 for a belt.
