4k and flywheel question and install

Postby 1goodidea » Mon Jan 17, 2005 9:27 am

is the flywheel that comes with a 2k motor the same as the one on a 4k? or is the 2k flywheel lighter?

which one should i use when installing my new 4k? with standard 4spd gearbox and dif?

and finally what is the best way to instal a 4k into a starlet should i remove the 2k and 4speed gearbox together unbolt gearbox, bolt to 4k and then instal gearbox and 4k together

OR should i just unbolt motor from gearbox and remove then install 4k and bolt to gearbox?

what is the best/easiest way?

Cheers

it will all bolt up fine :)
just remove the engine and leave the g/box in, these things are piss easy to change over.
edit: what is the 4K from ?, if its from a starlet it will be fine, but if not, you'l need to change the mounts from the 2K over to bolt it in.

I always found it easier to pull motor and box together. It can be a bugger to get the box lined up on the motor etc with it in the car. Just pull the radiator and radiator support panel, unbolt engine and box mounts, disconnect speedo, driveshaft, exhaust, wiring, alcelerator cable and fuel line. Should then be fairly easy to lift the motor a bit then move it forward (or roll the car back) and jiggle it free.

The 2K flywheel is marginaly lighter.

They all use the same 7 1/16 clutch, very small.

On that note king, does changing the oil in them smooth the changes up much generally? I know some cars it works well, some hardly, mines a 5 speed (K50?), and the changes can be a bit rough.

well what harm can it do? It can only do good. If your current oil is just wearing a bit thin, then yea you will notice the difference, less graunching etc.

just drain a little out, and check its colour and viscosity (thickness). Then if needed, chuck in some 75W/90 [or the like], maybe mix some ATF with it if you have some lying around.

But if your box is just strait-up $&#$%, K50's are EVERYWHERE!
