these are the resistance readings you should get from the sender to earth.
(float) full position - 3 (plus or minus) 2.1 ohms
1/2 position - 32.5 (plus or minus) 4.8 ohms
empty position 110 (plus or minus) 7.7 ohms
you should check the security of the wires for the gauge curcuit also.
to test the gauge itself, disconnect the wire on the back of the gauge, (the one from the sender), and connect a wire from the terminal to earth, via a 3.4W bulb. Then turn the ignition switch on, and the bulb should light, and then start to flash after a few seconds. The gauge needle should aslo deflect. If not then its your gauge thats faulty, but chances are its the sender because they usually fail before the gauge does.
