ae86 Steering arms

Postby crispy'86 » Mon Jan 17, 2005 5:50 pm

OK i know the steering arms are different between power and manual steering rack. The things i need to know are. Lower suspension arms should be same for ae85/86, and i have two steering arms with 2 different numbers on them. Passanger side is stamped L4, drivers side R3. The two look totally different to each other, i know ae85 power steering arms are marked L5, R5. What could the left side arm be off??. or right side one if not from ae86?? Has anyone got a pair of ae86 steering arms, or ae85 from manual steering rack?

ae86 steering

Postby crispy'86 » Mon Jan 17, 2005 6:16 pm

Oh i almost forgot, most important reason i'm asking is because the camber on the drivers side is more negative than the passenger, if the passenger is the '86 one what one is on the drivers side or vice versa??? I measured the different offsets, passenger has more positive oriented offset, i want to have the passenger same negative degree as drivers without changing suspension arms to compensate if i can help it

if the toe in is all correct on your alignment then changing the steering arms shouln't do much for your problem.
although i do have a full set from a manual ae85 as well as steering rack.
can also do you a set a of adjustable lower arms to fix the problem.

It's not so much toe in as camber, the offset between the ball joint flange and the strut bolt dowels is totally different, if i had a photo i could show u the difference. if u ran a straight line in the middle of the ball joint the passenger side arm has the dowels towards the engine side on the suspension arm if that makes any sense??
How much would u want for just the arms? I have a couple of racks here

L/R 4 arms could be KE70, they had 1/2 degree positive camber from factory (from memeory). what arms do you want?

i have a selection that may do the job.

get some tt132 corona arms.. same length as manual ae86 and gives 1/2 degree more neg camber from memory.

remember, in cars like this it's not unusual for there to have been a prang and the kingpin on the strut bent.

Could be you have different suspension on one side due to dodgy accident repair.
Different cars have different angles between the suspension leg and the stub axle (king pin inclination?) If someone has replaced one side with a leg from another model toyota you could end up with different camber.
I have seen this once on a car I owned... bump steer city!

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

L/R 7 appear to be TA63
L/R 4 appear to be the same as L/R 3 and are TT132
L/R 5 appear to be the same as L/R 2 but i also have a 5 that is different to the pair i have.

it will depend on what strut you are using to ensure the dowels line up with the strut.
